HELP IS URGENTLY NEEDED In GRENADA!
About a week after this most devastating hurricane to ever hit the island of Grenada, I received an email from my former student and friend at Sir Arthur Lewis College in St. Lucia.  It was an urgent request for any possible help we could give, particularly for the girls she had living in her basement whose homes were destroyed. They desperately needed drinking water tablets, medical supplies, and food. I was able to reach her by the cell phone number she gave me and learned more of the extreme destruction and the lack of basic survival items.  She also mentioned needing candles, flashlights and batteries, sanitary products, and even clothes because most had only had what they were wearing.  She was working daily with the Red Cross but not nearly enough help was coming in to keep people safe.  They had nearly nothing left by way of infrastructure.

In talking to friends in the U.S. and the Caribbean, we came to the conclusion that if we could collect donations ($s) through IFHE-US and get them to Theodora in Trinidad, they would purchase as much as they could in Trinidad. Girl Guides could get things to Rachael at the Department of Education in Grenada. We may be asked to help in others ways later, but this plan will get the most supplies to Grenada quickly and with the least cost. Juanita Mendenhall
